2 stops, one unfolding story.

Laos was the quietest part of the trip. We arrived in Vientiane late and in the rain, then continued to Luang Prabang and stayed at Satri House. The distances were smaller, the pace was slower and the six days gave us time for temples, markets, local food and Kuang Si Falls.

01 / Vientiane

Vientiane

We arrived late, in the rain, checked into the Salana Boutique Hotel and ate Lao sausages at the street-food market before giving up for the night. Over the next two days we saw Pha That Luang, Patuxai and several temples in a capital that really was as quiet as people had told us.

02 / Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang

In Luang Prabang, we stayed at Satri House and divided our time among temples, the market, local meals and walks through the compact center. We visited the Royal Palace; only later did I learn about the sad fate of the Lao royal family. A trip to the pale-blue pools at Kuang Si Falls brought our time in Laos to a close.
